The Damned Thing

Part 1
A dark room
Holliston lay in ruins. There had been a great war that had raged on for five years. The room was full of survivors from the most recent attack on the town. There was an ominous glow coming from the corner of the room, where a lone candle burned. Brittany, a local woman, sat in the corner weeping over a blanket that was covering a large object. The sun peaked over the horizon. The light showed through a small crack in a boarded up window. “Do you think it’s over?” asked a bloody woman.
“I don’t know, sometimes the bombings can last for days.” The man speaking was a low level investigator named Thomas. He pulled up a rusted chair and sat next to the woman with blood dripping down her face…”Miss let me take a look at you. It looks like you’ve been hit by a piece of shrapnel. Trust me I’m certified in first aid.”
“Thank you sir, Why are you here, you don’t look like your from the Holliston area.” The woman cringed as Thomas pulled a small piece of metal out of her head. Blood spurted all over Thomas’s white shirt.
Damn It! Sorry, please excuse my temper. To answer your question miss, I came here to investigate a series of murders with my friend Dan. Would you like to meet him?” Thomas walked over to the corner of the room where Brittany was sitting. She almost didn’t see him pull the blanket back. In the faint light everyone could see the pale corpse of Dan Reese.”. I was with him when he was murdered yesterday. I will find out who did this.
“You couldn’t just leave us alone could you?” Brittany stood up and walked over to Thomas. She picked up a board from the ground and hit him in the head. As she was walking away another bomb hit. It struck the center of town which was only half mile away. The blast shook the structure and small pieces of the ceiling rained down on the survivors.
“Brittany come back, I need to have a few words with you about your husband.” She turned around, giving Thomas the dirtiest look he had ever seen. She didn’t speak; she only turned and walked out the door. “Wait, you can’t go out there! What if another bomb hits? You will die.”
“Yeah I will die? No shit. Leave me alone, if I die I will be happy. I can rest with my husband.” As it turns out, another bomb hit as Brittany walked out the door. She was thrown back into the side of the building and knock unconscious by the stone walls of the house.

Part 2
Death in the air
We walked down the long narrow road. Every five feet there was a body part. Dan and I were on a mission to find what had taken over the town. ” where do you think this thing is? Could it be all a part of our imaginations?” I asked. There was a steady buzzing in the air. Out of the darkness of a house a man ran at us with a stake. He lunged at me but I dodged the point.
“Run, he’s possessed, get away from his now!” Dan screamed. He picked up a rock and hurled it at the head of my attacker. It struck him just above the temple. The man fell to the ground and started to seize uncontrollably.
“Damn, that was a close call. Thanks for saving my ass back there.” I pulled out a 357 from its holster and placed one unforgiving round into the back of the man’s head. The bullet left the man’s head looking like ground beef fresh from the grinder. As we walked away a cloud of smoke engulfed the man’s body and he was gone. We continued our walk down the street when four children came running after us from out of Fiske’s general store. I felt bad doing it but I unsheathed my katana and cut them to bite size bits one by one. I proceeded to wide the blood and chunks of flesh off my blade. It glistened like the grass with fresh morning dew. “Those kids had a little bit too much sugar this morning.”
I turned around and Dan was gone. I saw a door swing shut. I sprinted over to the door, pulling out my 357 I broke through the door. Shadows jumped around from wall to wall and shouts filled my ears. I cautiously walked around the corner to an empty room. All of a sudden the room collapsed leaving my pinned between hundreds of pounds of lumber. I could feel my lungs tightening up and I knew I had to get out of this situation. I used all of my strength to throw the wood off of my chest. It took me about an hour to free myself from the rubble.” Damn it! Dan? Dan where are you? Help me out here buddy. Are you alright?” it was no use trying to find Dan. I stood up and on top of a pile of wreckage; there was the lifeless body of my good friend Daniel Reese. He had been murdered.

Part 3
The investigation begins…and ends
Thomas knew something was up with Brittany. For the past six hours she sat there above Dan’s corpse. It seemed as if she was almost responsible for his death…” Thomas, come here. May I ask you a few questions?” Brittany muttered.
“Yeah, sure” there was a tension between the two but nobody would say anything. “What did you want to ask me?” Thomas stated. “If you think it was me that killed him, you’re wrong. I would never do that to him.” He stared her down and put one hand on his hand gun to show his authority.
“I’m not afraid of you.” Brittany said proudly. At that moment something caught her eye. It was a fly on the wall. She reached for it, moving Dan’s limp body to the side.
Brittany began to talk again but Thomas paid little attention to her. He looked down at her hands and noticed there were cuts on her fingers.”How did you get those cuts?” He asked. “Where were you yesterday around 6a.m? I see how you look at that fly, and the cuts on your hands. Something is up.” Thomas reached for his gun but was not quick enough.
Brittany grabbed his sword from the table. She jumped back and her eyes turned back in her head. She was damned; only one thing could save her, death. She swung at Thomas with his katana. “You can’t stop this. You may kill me but the damned thing will live forever. It will get you one day. Accept your fate and let me take you to the next world.”
“You’ve lost your mind” Thomas reached for a chair and hurled it at Brittany. It struck her mid body and she fell to the ground. The katana hit the ground, bounced once and lay next to Brittany’s motionless body. ”You, tie her up. She is to be executed for the murder of her husband.”

Part 4
The Execution

It was 5:30 on a Sunday morning. Hollis street was lonely, a small execution party walked up the desolate hill. There was a line of five people with the prisoner in the middle with an old dirty potato sack covering her face. I stood alone, walking at the front of the pack. We were all wearing black for the special event. We set Brittany down on the chopping block and removed the sack from her face.”Do you have anything to say before we do this? Why did you do it?”
“It consumed me. I couldn’t help it. I guess if you have to kill me, could you please make it quick?” A lone tear came rolled down her cheek and dropped to the beat up pavement.
“Sure, I just want you to know that I don’t want to kill you. But it’s for your own good. You would keep on killing and the thing inside of you would never leave. Trust me, you will die peacefully. You won’t feel a thing.” I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her lost soul; I knew that my last words to her were lies. She would feel a tremendous amount of pain. The Damned thing would continue to eat her soul if she was not killed. I kept telling myself it was right.
“Well if you have to…then I guess it’s the right thing to do. At least now I can be with my husband once again.” Brittany looked down to the ground and suddenly began to shake crazily.
“Hey look up here,” I said. I pulled out a small vile and a hypodermic needle. “This will ease your pain, I promise.” I injected the sedative into her arm. She winced as it pulsed through her system. The last words I heard her say were “thank you”. Why was she thanking me? I was killing her. I’m sure if we really tried we could get this thing out of the town. But no, that would take way too long. This was the most practical solution. I pulled out my 357 and placed it to her back. I couldn’t stand to look at her face as I pulled the trigger. With a puff of smoke, her body disintegrated. I walked back into town as a bomb struck ten feet in front of me. I speak to you from my bed where I will lay for the rest of my life. I am missing my legs. I succeeded in my investigation, but it cost me my mobility. The Damned thing will always be with us. It haunts me every day of my life. I have murdered many people in my life. I am damned…

Compare and Contrast I am Legend and The Omega Man

The Omega Man and I am legend are similar in parts but also very different. The Omega Man in my opinion is a terrible movie, with terrible acting and terrible zombies. In fact the zombies aren’t even zombies. They are people that can speak. They are just a primitive version of normal people. I am legend has vampires that are advanced and can speak but these vampires do not come into play until the end of the book. In The Omega Man there are more survivors than just Robert Neville. In the book Robert finds what he thinks is another survivor but Ruth ends up being an advanced vampire. Ruth could be compare to Lisa from The Omega Man. The only difference between them is that Ruth is a vampire the entire time and was sent to spy on Robert , and Lisa gets turned into a member of the family in time. The movie is a poor interpretation of the book. The infected are very different from the infected in the book I am Legend. An interesting part of the movie is that the infected susceptible to bullets. I found this very interesting because in the Book I am Legend the vampires are not harmed by bullets. And guns are obsolete. The Omega Man is a mockery to I am Legend. The list of disappointments goes on and on. If I was forced to watch it again I think I would scratch my eyes out. I am Legend and The Omega Man have multiple similarities and many differences, but I am Legend is much better.
